She has studied singing with the soprano Elizette Bayan and concluded her singing degree at the Lisbon Higher College of Music with Helena Pina Manique, Olga Prats and Nicholas McNair. In Master-Class she studied with Gundula Janowitz and has often prepared repertoire with the Maestro João Paulo Santos in the.S.Carlos National Theatre. She’s also graduated in Business Management at the ISCTE Lisbon University. She was awarded at the National Singing Competition Luisa Todi in 1993.
Since her first debut concert in Strasburg with the FMAC Orchestra, she has performed in several important halls and festivals through the country and abroad such as the São Carlos National Theatre; Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the Macau International Music Festival, singing with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra of London, the Calouste Gulbenkian Orchestra, the Chinese National Opera Orchestra, the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra and the Porto National Orchestra, etc.
There she was invited to sing in operas like: Bizet’s Carmen (Frasquita and Micaela), Richard Strauss’s Ariadne auf Naxos (Echo), F. Léhar’s Die Lustige Witwe (Valencienne), Ravel’s L´enfant et les Sortilèges (Fire and Knightingale), Wagner’s Parsifal (Flower), Puccini’s Suor Angelica (Suor Genovieffa), Cimarosa’s Il Matrimonio Segreto (Elizetta), Verdi’s Rigoletto (Gilda), Mozart’s Don Giovanni (Donna Anna), Puccini’s La Bohème ( Musetta). Her repertoire also includes the Donizetti’s Don Pasquale (Norina) and L’Elisir D’Amore (Adina).
Teresa Cardoso de Menezes has also performed under the direction of: Giuliano Carella, Patrick Summers, Marko Letonja, Renato Palumbo, G. Otvos, Alvaro Cassuto, Osvaldo Ferreira, Nicholay Lalov, and has performed with singers and artists such as Elena Obraztsova, Anna Tomowa-Sintow, Sumi Jo, Miriam Gauci, Vicenzo Bello, Thomas Moser, Eva Marton, Rao Kyao, , Luis Miguel Cintra, Elizabette Matos, etc.
As a concert singer she has sung with the Calouste Gulbenkian Orchestra: the Haendel’s Messiah, the D. Scarlatti’s Stabat Mater (Maestro Michael Corboz), Pfitzner’s Palestrina (Maestro Michel Zilm) and an Operatic Concert (Maestro M. Ivo Cruz); with the Portuguese Symphonic Orchestra the Meyerbeer’s Cantata Gli Amori di Teolinda and the Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater in the São Carlos Theatre; with the Oporto National Orchestra the Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate and the Mahler’s 4th Symphony ; Ein Deutsches Requiem from Brahms; Gloria & Magnificat from Vivaldi, the Kaffee-Kantate & Bauernkantate from J. S. Bach in a portuguese stage production with the Lisbon Sinfonietta Orchestra (Maestro Vasco p. Azevedo).
In the North American musical world she took part in the production Back to Broadway in the S. Luiz Lisbon Theatre, singing songs from West Side Story, The Sound of Music, My Fair Lady, Show Boat and Les Misérables. In Lied and Belcanto Arias in Duo with the pianist Francisco Sassetti and in Trio with the baritone Luís Rodrigues.
From 2008 she sung a Liszt recital, including Petrarcas' Sonets, with the great painist António Rosado. In 2009 she created a new concert called Worl Melodies - from Opera to Fado with Rão Kyao, Francisco Sassetti, Pedro de Castro e Andreia Marques. She also sung that year in CCB, the contemporary opera Der Kaiser von Atlantis from Viktor Ullmann, with the conductor Jean-Sébastien Béreau. In January 2010 she made in theatre the premiere of her new musical comedy Di Gioia ed Amore with the pianist João Vale. Em 2011 toma parte na estreia da Ópera de Alexandre Delgado "A Rainha Louca" no CCB.
Beyond the recordings for the RDP - Portuguese Broadcasting Co. in live performances, she has already recorded tree CD’s. In 2000 the Opera Arias CD Je Veux Vivre and in 2002 the Sacred Arias CD Alleluia , both with the Lisbon Metropolitan Orchestra, the Voces Caelestes Choir and Maestro Manuel Ivo Cruz. There she sings a wide repertoire, showing both vocal and dramatic versatility covering from the Baroque to Contemporary period through Bach, Haendel, Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Gounod, R.Strauss, Rachmaninov, A. Lloyd Webber, etc.
Alleluia was acclaimed by the Portuguese press, from Expresso Newspaper (2003.4.4, L.Leidfarb), the Third Best Classical Recording from 2002, and also achieved the Fnac’s Classical Music Top in December 2002.
In 2007 is the time for her third CD Upon a Star – Enchanted Songs in Duo with the harpist Andreia Marques, singing songs from the Classical to Popular music, from Vivaldi, Liszt, Schumann, Obradors, Sérgio Azevedo to Summertime, La vie on rose, Amazing Grace, When you wish upon a star …
